S.T.E.A.M. (formerly STEM) is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. This world-wide initiative was developed in response to a small population of students being interested in these academic areas, yet the need for graduating students to pursue these career paths remained great. Formerly, the arts were not included in stem projects; however. it became apparent quite quickly that creativity and design was and continues to be an integral part of innovation and creation. Thus, the arts were given the credit that was already being utilized despite its lack of recognition in the beginning stages of the STEM initiative.
Across the nation, schools are building learning activities that focus on these areas while also incorporating the state standards and objectives into their projects. This not only garners support for innovation and creativity but also builds interest that may not have been previously tapped into. Lapel Schools are excited to join the STEAM initiative. We will actively stand by, support, and coach our students as they work to become active citizens through STEAM tasks and one day be the ones who are solving complex tasks that have no current solution. We hope you will join us on Saturday, April 16th from 9:00a-12:30p
